The Welfare Reform Event takes place at the Pollyfield Centre in Bideford on Wednesday March 20th from 9am -12pm
Councillor Pauline Davies of East the Water in Bideford, is so concerned that local people are still unaware of the reduction in benefits they may be facing that she has organised a special event at the Pollyfield Centre on Wednesday March 20th.
Representatives from Torridge's Housing Options team, the Benefits team, Job Centre Plus, Tarka Housing, CAB, Encompass Southwest (formerly Barnstaple Poverty Action Group) and Westcountry Housing will be on hand to talk to local residents and explain how the benefits changes may affect them.
Councillor Davies said, 'With the changes to Benefits being brought in next month, it's so important that people know what this might mean to them. The Pollyfield event is a chance for local residents to talk face to face to all sorts of agencies and start planning now for what's going to happen.'
Lead member for Housing in Torridge Councillor David Lausen said, 'We are doing everything we can to help people but those with concerns who are not sure what the changes will mean for them personally, should contact us immediately or come and talk to us at the Pollyfield event.'
And council leader Barry Parsons added, 'We are all concerned about the changes being forced upon us from next April, so I fully support Councillor Davies in organising another event and I hope that residents will take full advantage of the opportunity to talk to so many people in one room who can help.'
