The Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile in Bideford’s Victoria Park is just two weeks away and Sunday 21st March is set to be an unforgettable day. There are already loads of local people signed up, so others need to enter quickly to ensure places for all their friends, family and workmates.

There will be a mass warm-up at 10.30am for participants and other activities for the general public to be involved in. We will also have food and drink stalls throughout the day.

Jessica Christie, 5x30 Activator for Torridge, said: “The Victoria Park Mile is set to be an amazing day. It’s fantastic that so many people are gathering together to show their support for Sport Relief 2010. But we want this to be the best Sport Relief event yet, so we still need more people to raise their game, enter the Victoria Park Mile and join us to raise plenty of cash!”

Even if you are not up to running why not go along and show your support.

Torridge’s lead member for Health and Leisure, Councillor Rose Lock said, “As a Council we are committed to the people of the district for their health, leisure, sporting activities and enjoyment. Sport Relief is a great way to get active, raise cash and change lives for the better.”

You can choose your own distance challenge from 1, 3 or 6 miles. 1 mile starts at 12pm, 3 and 6 miles start at 11am. That means, from teeny tots with their mums and dads, to super sprinters up against the clock, there’s something for everyone on the big day. By getting sponsored to do the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile you’re helping to make a big difference. The money you raise will be spent by Comic Relief to help transform lives here in the UK and across the world’s poorest countries.

Sport Relief has a unique history of dedicated people doing extraordinary things to rise to the challenge. Last summer Eddie Izzard set an incredible standard by running an amazing 43 marathons in 51 days around the UK and there’ll be even more amazing celebrity challenges to get the whole nation geared up for the Sport Relief Weekend, from David Walliams and friends on the BT Sport Relief Million Pound Bike Ride, to Helen Skelton’s Amazing Amazon Adventure, to Christine Bleakley’s Thomson Sport Relief Waterski Challenge.
