Bold, creative, imaginative, exciting, environmentally aware, thrilling and inspiring are some of the words that may be used to describe this amazing exhibition from pupils within the Torrington Learning Community. Once again The Plough Arts Centre hands over it’s gallery in March for this fantastic exhibition.

This year the exhibition takes the theme ‘Why Don’t We All Live In An Igloo’?  Each school will be showcasing a range of self selected artwork providing a mixture of painting, drawing and 3D installations.    The project is based on dwellings throughout the world. It takes the theme of homes as a way to learn about and understand the differences and similarities of ours and other cultures.

What type of dwellings are found in other parts of the world, do people live in exactly the same sort of housing in any one country, what are the houses made out of , what do they look like and why? These are a few of the questions that will provide a starting point for exploring how other people live. By looking at dwellings we can also learn about what affects the way we live and how we live. It examines who lives in what type of house and why, taking into account climate, economic provisions and varying lifestyles

Artists Joy Elliott  and Wendy Elford  have worked with pupils in each school to create a collaborative book, wall hanging prints and a floor installation which highlight the diversity of ‘homes’ throughout the world. Each child is proud of the artwork that they have created and  this exhibition truly reflects how wonderfully imaginative and creative children’s artwork can be.

This project has been co-ordinated by The Plough Arts Centre and funded with the assistance of a grant from The Esmee Fairbairn Foundation.
