'Full Time' MP? Councillor Adam Symons poor record of attendance at Torridge DC

Given the nasty, vitriolic and sustained attack on

Geoffrey Cox, which involved rewriting and misrepresenting old newspaper

headlines, it is only fair and reasonable to enquire as to whether

Councillor Adam Symons, who represents Hartland and Bradworthy on

Torridge District Council is a good attender of meetings.

I have gone through the Torridge District Council website  looking at

the minutes of meetings for the last year or so from March/April '09 to

the present. Cllr Symons sits on the Overview & Scrutiny Committee

and like all councillors has to attend full council meetings.

In summary, I found that Councillor Symons attended only 27% of

meetings, though he partially attended a further 9% where is is minuted

that he left the meeting early. For the remaining 64% he has given his

apologies.

I will do something he has not done for Geoffrey Cox and cut Adam

Symons a bit of slack for the birth of his son. However, the point

remains that Adam Symons has failed to attend a substantial number of

meetings which as a Councillor he should have been present at.

Given all the talk of being a full time MP, it is certainly

revealing that Councillor Symons attends meetings so infrequently for

the elected office that he does hold and for which he receives an

allowance and expenses from the taxpayer.

I am involved with various community groups across Torridge, and in my experience Adam Symons works tirelessly for the community.

I have only met Geoffrey Cox once in five years, whereas I have met Adam at countless community meetings and events.  If the people of Torridge and West Devon want an MP who really cares about their community, and will truly represent them in parliament, there is only one choice on polling day.  VOTE LIB DEM.

I was inclined to vote for Mr Symons until I received his letter referring to Geoffrey Cox.  His descent into the gutter politics of personal attack suggests that he is no better and perhaps worse than his political opponents, in that he claims to be more accountable than them but conceals his own record.

I believe that the Liberal Democrats can put forward a valid manifesto argument for political power but, if Adam Symons is an example of their integrity, they do not deserve to govern.

Looking back over my voting record in local and national elections over 45 years (I have never missed one) I have voted on the Liberal side on most occasions.

    Not this time!
