There

hasn't been a marathon event in North Devon for some 20 years. And

there has certainly never been one as spectacular, beautiful and

challenging as this!

Centred

around the idyllic Woolacombe beach, these two races give runners the

opportunity to compete on North Devon Coast Areas of Outstanding

Natural Beauty (AONB).

The AONB covers 171 km sq of the coastal landscape from Marsland Mouth

on the Cornish border to Combe Martin on the boundary of Exmoor

National Park, and ha some of the most beautiful and rugged coastal

scenery in the South West. The route is challenging with over 1300 feet

of climbing in the half-marathon and over 3300 feet in the full

marathon. It will certainly test your resolve.

The

terrain underfoot will be a mixture of stone, gravel, turf, sand and

tarmac over the coastal paths, cycle routes, fields, tracks, beaches

and roads of North Devon. The timing will ensure that the countryside

is at its best with a whole host of plants in blossom. Don't forget to

watch the seals, birds and waves as you run by.

In

true Devon style, runners will be given delicious cream tea when they

finish (but don't worry, water will be available to all as well). There

are also plenty of bars and restaurants in Woolacombe in which you can

revel in your achievement and swap stories of killer climbs

and devilish descents with fellow runners.

The

real beauty of the start and finish points being by Woolacombe beach is

that the whole family can enjoy this 3-mile stretch of sand whilst you

are running - the perfect day out for everyone!

The

race being held to raise money for North Devon Hospice who care for

local patients and families suffering from the impact of

life-threatening illnesses. By taking part in this event you are

helping the hospice care for over 100 people every day. Thank you so

much for your support.

Refreshments

- Tea and biscuits will be available at the start and water will be

provided at all manned checkpoints. Food will be available at the

finish at pubs and restaurants in Woolacombe.

Facilities

- Unfortunately there are no changing or shower facilities near by.

There is an outdoor cold water shower nearby that surfers use, and of

course, there is an enormous bath with built-in wave machine right next

to the finish line.

Rules of Entry

- The race is open to all runners of 18 years or over on the date of

the race. The Fell Runners Association Rules for Competition shall

apply to this event.
