Sunday June 13th is the date for the 16th annual play day in the Victoria park, Bideford. The day is organised by Community Arts Network and is aimed at promoting children and young people's services in the North Devon area. Any group that would like to attend and have a free stall to promote their activities are welcome. We would encourage groups to provide an activity to demonstrate what they do. All activities must be free of charge. In fact all activities on the day will be free for all to enjoy and participate in.
This year's event will include a stage (ex Radio 1 Roadshow stage) with music from local young musicians, already confirmed to play are Ellie Campbell, Scott Linn, and Frankie Baker. Any young musician, bands or singers who are under the age of 20 who would would like to take part can contact Athos at Community Arts Network, details below. We hope to encourage all young musicians to take part to showcase young talent in North Devon.
Other attractions on the day include childrens author Laura Summers, who's first book Desperate Measures was nominated for the Waterstone new author award and received wide acclaim. Laura is also credited as one of the script writers for the Tracey Beaker TV series. Also on offer this year will be storytellers, circus skills workshops, large scale games for both children and their parents/carers, large scale art and chalk art trails with students from North Devon College (Petrock), Samba Sol, Bidefords own carnival samba band who will be performing and holding workshops, Spectacular large scale kites including a two mast schooner kite, plus a demonstration of authentic Indian fighting kites. Lots more will be added and the organiser promise a day that parents can come along with their children and not have to bring their wallets as all activities and entertainment will be free of charge. Bring a picnic and join in with the fun and games
The day is funded entirely by Community Arts Network who would also like to thank Steve Clarke, Phil Vanstone and UK Heavy Haulage for their generous support.

This sounds like a great day out. I'll put it in my diary. The entertainment on the bike race day in Victoria Park was great - let's hope there's sunshine for this event too. It's good to see the community making the most of Victoria Park.
