NHS Devon Reappoint Parkham's Roger French as Non-Executive Director

Roger French from Parkham Ash near Bideford in North Devon has been re-appointed to NHS Devon Board.

His term will begin on 1 June 2010 for four years until 31st May 2014, in accordance with the Commissioner for Public Appointments’ Code of Practice.
Roger French has a wealth of experience in the public and private sector.
Over the last 30 years he has been a Managing Director, Chief Executive or Chairman of a variety of companies in transport, food services and the computer industry.
Roger is a qualified mechanical engineer, having started his working life in civil air transport. He is also an independent member of Torridge District Council, chair of Bideford Children’s Centre, and chair of Parkham Parish Council.
Roger said: “I am pleased to be reappointed and look forward to the working alongside such a committed team.
“I’ve been hugely impressed by the commitment and loyalty of staff at all levels, and I’ve experienced their dedication first hand when members of my own family have received care.”
The key responsibilities of Non-executive Directors are to:
set the strategic plan to improve health and health care services
ensure that the management team meets its performance targets
ensure that the financial controls and systems of risk management are robust
ensure that the board acts in the best interests of the local community and keeps the public properly informed
take part in the appointment of the chief executive and other senior staff.
All non-executive appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations#, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity (if any) to be made public.
NHS Devon is the lead NHS organisation for the county, responsible for commissioning health services for 750,000 people.
