A marathon effort for us

RUNNING has been at the forefront of my mind this week. Please note, I say that it has been on my mind, rather than being an activity I have actually been taking part in!

It seems recreational running has exploded in popularity, with all sorts of testing events springing up.

The Braunton ten-mile race took place this weekend, raising money for North Devon Hospice, and there was an excellent turnout. This event would be a perfect tune-up event for the North Devon AONB Marathon, a monster run with hills to make even seasoned veterans grimace.

Even though it doesn't take place until June 24, incredibly there are less than 30 spaces left of the full-marathon, with a few more available on the half-marathon route. If you fancy taking on the challenge be quick because spaces will go. Please visit www.northdevon marathon.co.uk.

Of course, an altogether more relaxing way to support the hospice is through our Lottery Club. Contributing just £1 a week may not sound like a lot, but this allows us to plan with greater certainty.

In return, our Lottery Club members have the chance to win one of 35 cash prizes every week, including the £1,000 top prize which this week goes to Mr. Dunn (Lottery No. 00446) from Bideford.

Dr. Eke (56664) near Bideford won £100 and Mrs. O'C (03193) near Barnstaple won £75. Mr. E. W. (72572), our £50 winner, lives in Bideford and our £25 winner, Mrs. R. S. (50771), lives in Barnstaple.

Congratulations to the other 30 prizewinners. If you would like to become part of our Lottery Club, please contact me on 01271 347217.

MIKE PENNY,

North Devon Hospice Lottery Manager.
