What a Treat for Biddy Bear at Sweet Street in Bideford

Well that was a treat!  I spent the month of May at Sweet Street in Bideford High Street.

The colourful 'proper' sweetie shop was opened in November last year by local couple Michelle and Chris Johnson.  Michelle had her eye on the empty shop in the High Street for some time and, remembering it as a sweet shop from her childhood, decided to restore it to its former purpose but with an added WOW! factor.

Both Chris and Michelle have experience in catering and after sixteen years as Food Manager at Marks and Spencer in Barnstaple Michelle knows the importance of excellent quality and service.

Sweet Street certainly knows what it's good at.  You only need to pop your head around the door and see the colourful array of Jelly Belly jelly beans, tempting pic n mix and rows of traditional sweeties in old fashioned glass jars to be drawn into the shop.

The biggest temptation for me though are the milkshakes.  Sweet Street sell fruit shakes and flavoured shakes but best of all are the milkshakes made from your favourite chocolate bars!  Have you ever tried a Daim bar shake?  Do it ... now!  These shakes come in so many different flavours it's hard to choose; Kinder Bueno, Star Bar, Ferrero Rocher to name a few and they are actually made using the bars themselves, it's not just a flavouring.

There is such a long list of flavours to work your way through that Sweet Street are offering loyalty cards for their milkshakes.  When you have bought six shakes the seventh comes free!

It's not just the locals enjoying Sweet Street either, over half term Bideford's visitors have been snapping up the tasty and colourful gift hampers made up with goodies from the shop.  A nice idea too for a birthday present or maybe Father's day?

As a local independent business Sweet Street have been awarded a £2,500 grant from the Bridge Trust to add to their range.  They will be spending the funds on a Whippy ice cream machine which should be arriving soon.

So when you are out and about in town and fancy a sweet treat, remember Sweet Street!

I was very dissapointed with their selection of sweets. It seems every high street has a shop opening and and closing like this.
