Traditional family business is what Bideford is all about and Maid Marian's Sewing Service in Allhalland Street is certainly that.

Maid Marian's does exactly what it says on the tin!  Mother and daughter team Jackie Gurney and Laura Wyatt offer a reliable and high quality sewing service.  Alterations and repairs are the mainstay of the business.  Hand making clothes in these days of factory manufacture is just not cost effective.

I'm sure I'm not alone in not being able to sew for toffee and if you gave me a zip to put in a skirt I'd run a mile.  So it's not surprising that Jackie and Laura are kept busy and have a steady stream of local, regular customers.  The recent prom season has topped up the workload too with all those pretty dresses needing alteration!

Jackie has run the little shop in Allhalland Street for 21 years.  She learned her craft at Brighton Art College and further honed her skills at William Hill's Department Store in Brighton.  Just as it should be with traditional skills, Jackie has passed down her expertise to daughter Laura who has now joined her in the business.

Maid Marian's is open from 8-5 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.  You'll get more than good service here ... two friendly, smiling faces make this little hive of activity a joy to visit.
