Along with tens of thousands of children around the UK and worldwide the children are aiming to break the Guinness World Record attempt at the Biggest Sleepover over a 24 hour period and raise money for children's charities and good causes.
Plans are now in place for 20 children from Instow School to bed down with sleeping bags and midnight feasts at the ready. They are not just planning to sleep though; before lights out they will be strolling on the beach, eating fish and chips, watching a movie and having a pillow fight!
Class 2 teacher Katy Graves says "The children are very excited about Saturday and so are the parents to have a night off! We have lots planned so they can enjoy playing games, learning new skills and becoming more aware of how they can play a part in helping others."
Over
20,000 kids have now registered for the Giant Sleepover with the
largest sleepover set to take place in Lancashire
with night caps at the ready for 1,000 West Lancashire Cub Scouts planning to
camp out for the night.
The
sleeping will not be restricted to the school hall with several sleepovers
taking place in unique and unusual venues; kids will be sleeping at Hamleys (Regent
Street) in a giant inflatable sleeping
bag, braving the ghouls at London Dungeon and finding out if fish sleep having
their big snooze in Sea Life centres across the country.
One
of The Giant Sleepover founders Sandie Dinning comments "For this one night children will join a
global community of kids, get the chance to sleep out, meet new friends, learn
new skills and raise awareness and money for charity. Since
it started the Giant Sleepover has raised more than £500,000 for charity. We
hope this year’s event will be bigger and better.”
The
Giant Sleepover has grown from just one school’s commitment in 2003 to a well
established annual event and what hopes to be a Guinness World Record this
year. Outside the UK
sleepovers will take place in Australia,
Bermuda, Brunai,
Germany,
New Zealand
and the Falkland Islands.
