Sammy says "Microchip Your Pet"!
Remember Sammy the Spaniel who was found recently, two and a half years after he went missing? If it wasn't for his microchip he may never have been reunited with his family.
June is National Micro-chipping Month and the campaign encourages and promotes responsible pet ownership through microchipping as the preferred method of permanent pet identification.
The purpose of National Micro-chipping Month is to raise awareness of how simple and effective micro-chipping is and how providing this quick and easy permanent method of identification means that pets are reunited with their owners sooner rather then later if they become lost.
Over the last 12 months, Torridge District Council has received almost 300 reports of lost or found dogs.
Torridge District Council’s Animal Welfare Officer Carl Caswell said, "It's really important to get your dog chipped – it's so much easier for us to get the animal back to the owner if it gets lost. But it's also important to keep your details up to date – so if you move house, or change your mobile number – please let us know. Just a couple of months ago, we were able to reunite Sammy the Springer Spaniel with his family 2½ years after he went missing because he had been micro-chipped and the owner's details had been kept up-to-date."
Torridge's Environmental Protection Team offers a micro-chipping service as part of its work to support responsible pet ownership. It costs just £10 and anyone interested in having their pet chipped should contact Carl Caswell, Animal Welfare Officer, on 01237 428810 or email carl.caswell@torridge.gov.uk.

I've been in contact with Carl via email and he is coming to my home tomorrow (9th) to microchip my dog - so its a home service! So there is no reason to NOT have your dog microchipped is there, especially when the cost is lower than any vet's and you don't have to travel to have this done.
