Red Elastic Bands
By howardgem | Tuesday, January 04, 2011, 13:18
I now have a HUGE (probably around 150) collection of red elastic bands, which have been dropped on the pavement by our postman. I only collect "local" elastic bands ie. within 200 yards of my home.
I have been collecting these bands for about three months and now
I just need some useful ideas on how to use them!

ReportWell, pobox112, The litter problem caused by the rubber bands is absolutely minuscule - especially as they are biodegradable. And my guess is that the cost to the Royal Mail of using them is also pretty minute, and is likely to be outstripped by the fact that they must make the mail much easier to handle for the postman - whose productivity will thus be enhanced.
I write as one who finds the litter around the area actually quite distressing, not only because it looks unsightly and may present a health or safety hazard, but because it is indicative of a "don't care" element among us. But I don't really include postman's (or even postlady's) rubber bands in this!

Report... and pobox112 That is a really good idea. If only I could resist putting them in my pocket!

ReportHa ha joninbideford - that's brilliant! Like you, I can't resist picking up rubber bands on the street - you never know when they might come in handy. Just think you have helped clean up the streets and provided someone with some much needed elastic at the same time. Brownie points for you :)
