What Would You Like to See Replace Chopes in Bideford?

It is sad news for most of us that Chopes department store in Bideford is closing after 112 years of trading.

Chopes of Bideford
Times change. The economy and people's shopping habits change with them so Bideford will have to move with the times and accept that one old favourite will soon be gone.
Rumours abound around town as to which big national retailer will be moving in to the Chopes premises. We hear via the Bideford People facebook page that the actual building will not be sold but will be rented out.
It could be good for Bideford if a major national retailer sets up shop in the High Street but it could spoil the nature of what Bideford is. We don't want another Barnstaple with its generic characterless high street.
So will it be Primark? What about Wetherspoons? What would you like to see replace Chopes on Bideford High Street?

Dear evalyn, I guess that the answer to your question is Barnstaple (unfortunately).

ReportI hear that it's not Primark moving into the Chopes building but M&Co. I'm not a fan of the shop but they do sell some OK children's wear. At least it will be bigger than the new M&Co in Green Lanes, Barnstaple which seems to be taller than it is wide or deep.

Reporthow do you know that sweat shop statement to even be true?
I read the reports out sometime ago that stated that most clothing retailers used the same/similar places to get their designs manufactured - just because something is expensive doesn't mean the people who made it were working under better conditions than the people producing cheaper garments.
