Celebrating Valentine's Day in Bideford

Are you stuck for ideas for Valentine's Day in Bideford?

Had you not even thought about it?  Shame on you!

Even if you think that St Valentine's day is a load of commercial nonsense no doubt you are too scared of relationship repercussions to ignore it.

So here are some tips on how to make your Valentine's Day celebrations special.

Now if your loved one is your childhood sweetheart then why not go back to the days of your courtship?  Hold hands and take a walk down by the river, slip into Victoria Park for some canoodling on a park bench then pop in to Mr Chips for a takeaway and sit on the quay trying not to share it with the seagulls!

If the days of walking hand in hand are over for you and your Valentine but you still want to avoid the modern cliches of flowers, card, meal in restaurant then how about this.  My Mum used to cook us all a special St Valentine's heart themed meal.  You may not want to follow this to the letter as she used to cook Ox hearts!  However, there are enough 'real' shops in Mill Street to get yourself the ingredients for a heartfelt home cooked dinner.  Get some real quality meat from Honey's, make it special with some out of the ordinary veg from Kelland's, pop in to Lindsey's for some pretty Valentine's cakes.  Remember when you are preparing your celebration dinner, do it with Love.  When I cook I am always reminded of the book (and film) Like Water for Chocolate where each recipe is a metaphor for an emotion.

So, anyway, if you think that's too much of an effort and all you want to do is throw some money at St Valentine's Day then you are lucky that Bideford has so many jewellery and gift shops to satisfied your need.  Clinton's Cards is full of love heart shaped gifts, cards and wrapping, Coopers has new and antique jewellery and Designers at the top of Bridgeland Street has those all important red roses for your loved one.

Remember, what ever you do for St Valentine's Day, do it from the heart!
