Yesterday at Appledore book festival my mum and I went to see the author Jacqueline Wilson.  I was excited to see her because I love her books and I wanted to see what she was like in real life.

We nearly didn't get to see her because my Mum had left the tickets at home and we had to drive back to get them!

When we got into the church, a massive applause started as Jacqueline walked up onto the stage and sat down on a chair, she had two of her books on the table next to her and a microphone in front of her.

She talked about how she always wanted to be a writer, when she stayed in the airing cupboard of a girls hostel, how she got to work in the Jackie magazine, how she came up with the idea of 'Tracy Beaker' and lots of tips on writing.  I asked her what her favourite book was when she was a child and she said she liked Ballet Shoes by Noel Streatfield, she said she used to dance around her front room like a ballet dancer!

She talked about her new book, 'The longest whale song' and read an extract of the book to the audience.

At the end of the talk, I bought the book and the lady put me to the front of the queue!  When I met her she signed my book "To Dorothy, love from Jacqueline Wilson xxx".

When we got back to the car we noticed that my mum had left the lights on because we were in such a rush earlier.  It wouldn't start so I got a chance to read my new book while we were waiting for our friend to come and rescue us.  It's a really good book so far and I look forward to reading the rest.
