Top rowers from across the South of England will descend on Bideford this weekend to take part in the 2012 South Coast Championships.
Rowing crews from the Coast Amateur Rowing Association (CARA) Hants and Dorset ARA and the West of England ARA will compete for the coveted Bideford Bowl.
The Bideford Bowl was donated by the Bideford Regatta Committee for the Senior Championship at the first South Coast Championship held in 1957 at Poole in Dorset, although Bideford has yet to win it. It is the ninth time the town has hosted the regatta in its fifty-six year history.
The event starts on Saturday with the senior championship at 9.00am, with the prize-giving taking place in Victoria Park at 2.00pm. The junior regatta will be on Sunday at 10.00am. Prizes will be given out at 2.00pm in Victoria Park. The Bideford Bowl can currently be viewed at the Burton Art Gallery.
The regatta coincides with Bideford Carnival and the Ninth annual mass piping and drumming festival.
