why all the fuss about Westleigh junction?
The rules of the road would suffice with the an un-mistakeable road sign.
Vehicles from Barnstaple direction should be told to give way to the right which is what we are supposed to do in this country.
Perhaps a camera as backup to catch those that cannot read english!!

No wonder there are so many accidents at this junction if this is the way some people interpret the junction. Do you surroundblack give way to everybody coming out of a junction to your right hand side? This is exactly what this junction is - a turning off the main road, not a roundabout. Therefore you should be coming off the junction from the Barnstaple direction using the highway code as regards a right hand turn - you should give way to oncoming traffic and then proceed across the main road thus completing your manouvre . Traffic coming up from the Westleigh road taking a right hand turn on to the main road should be giving way to traffic on the main road and only going behind vehicles turning down on to the Westleigh road, never going across in front of somebody turning into a right hand junction - get it?
No that's why this junction needs sorting!

I'm afraid surroundblack is right howardgem, making you an accident waiting to happen. The large rectangular blobs infront of the right turn from the A361 into the Westligh junction mean GIVE WAY, give way to who? The traffic turning right out of the Westleigh junction onto the A361, it has priority not traffic turning right from the A361. I'd suggest a thorough review of your highway code.

Another discussion we could easily have is, is this junction confusing? Should it be simplified in some way so that we can all run on auto pilot so don't seem to need to know our highway code like howardgem?

From what has been said so far, as long as a decision is made as to which direction gets priority then clear signs would be enough and far cheaper than the current options. £600k has been mentioned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
