I have just read on Times Online tinyurl.com/ye6qs8v that the family of the girl who drowned want to bring charges against the school and teacher involved. But what about all the other groups who trained that day. All the others who continued. They were all enduring the same conditions and I assume were encouraged to continue by their teachers/group leaders.
I feel this was an unfortunate accident. The whole idea of the Ten Tors is that the children are independent of adult supervision. So if anyone is to blame it is the people who organise the event and let teenagers make the decisions for themselves.
My heart goes out to Charlotte's mother, friends and family and I cannot comprehend how hard it must be to come to terms with her death. However, what benefit is there in charging the teacher with her manslaughter? He is a teacher and I assume had nothing but the children's best interests at heart.
