I visited Poundstretcher today during my lunch hour and was really disappointed with the customer service.  The staff on the tills really need to make their customers feel valued and not just "a transaction" .  The staff member only spoke to me to tell me how much money she required for my purchase and then not even a please or a thankyou when the transaction was completed.  I actually had to stop myself from saying thankyou, as there was nothing to thank her for!
How are Poundstretcher staff going to feel when they have competition from the other side of the road, where Woolworth used to be.  I understand there is a factory shop opening there soon - Let's hope the staff over there give Poundstretcher poe faces a run for their money!!
I also went into Sommerfield in Mill Street and was pleasantly surprised by the customer service I received today .  The cashier was friendly as were the other members of staff who were stacking shelves (two of them actually said "good morning")

There is no customer service in Poundstretcher.  On the few occasions that I venture in there, I've usually been made to feel that my visit is an inconvenience to the staff & can only assume that they are always having a bad day.

Despite the reasonable prices & decent products, I doubt I'll buy anything from there again.  My shopping choices are not based on price alone and I've no intention of spending money where I'm not welcomed as a human being.

I agree! The customer is the reason any of us have a pay packet. We do not owe shop workers a living. Poundstretcher is one of the least friendly shops I have ever visited. There is very little customer relationship and even the staff do not seem to smile at one another. I HAVE tried to elicit comments and a smile from them but it is like a graveyard in there.

I ran shops in Bideford for over 30 years and undervaluing customers was a sackable offence. Keeping cheerful and greeting customers is fundamental to the job, even when you are having a bad day. If shopworkers attitudes are right, on bad days the customer actually becomes your friend and helper so everyone wins.

Ive heard this factory store is like the one just opened in south molton and if they sell the amount of bargains in the bideford one it may even be good bye poundstretcher!
Designer shoes from £10, some top quality facial products usually sold in boot for £15+ being sold for more than half that price also the odd top high street brands of clothing like monsoon being sold dirt cheap! But yes lets hope they have a great team of staff!
