I think the Co-Op/Somerfield are being petty! I can't see how Dan the Fishman's trade would affect theirs at all. The small store does not sell wet fish which is caught locally, like Dan does. An old fashioned hand-cart with a jolly sailor type selling fish in the street is something Bideford should be proud of. The so-called community retailer should be thinking of the bigger picture.

ReportOne barrow of fish, half a day a week ... is that going to bankrupt the CO-OP? No, but it may seriously affect the fishmonger's income.

I quite agree, bring back Dan the fish man to Mill Street.
It is lovely to see him in Mill Street - he contributes to the quaintness of the town. This is what Bideford should be building on, not trying to make itself the same as other towns nearby. Bideford is unique and it should be marketed as such. If only the powers that be could realise this and not keep trying to destroy what makes Bideford eg. the Kathleen & May will shortly be sailing away and may never return.
What next, an eviction order on the starlings under the bridge!
