Torridge residents told to be on the look out for bogus callers

Torridge residents have been told to be on their guard following a spate of visits from people pretending to work on behalf of the local authority.
A number of households in Taddiport, near Torrington, have received visits from individuals working for an organisation called the 'Real Green Deal'. The callers say they need to assess the householder's cavity and loft insulation, on behalf of the local authority. They have also told residents the council will increase their council tax if their house is not energy efficient.
Torridge District Council has said this is categorically not the case.
The Council said, in a statement, "No one has been asked to inspect local residents' cavity or loft insulation on behalf of the council, and it is not true to say that the rate of council tax payable is calculated using energy efficiency measures."
If any local residents open their door to a caller from the 'Real Green Deal', or any other insulation/ energy efficiency company, it is essential to insist on seeing bona fide credentials. If in doubt, please call Torridge's Housing team on 01237 428848 or contact your local authority if you live outside of Torridge District and have received such callers.
