High tides have exposed rubbish on Northam Burrows
Initially it was thought the rubbish had been washed up by the sea over time, but further investigation has revealed that the edge of a rubbish tip was exposed following a series of high tides which washed away part of the dunes.
Officers from Torridge District Council, Devon County Council and the Environment Agency have inspected the site at Northam Burrows and removed any items of rubbish that have been exposed.
A meeting has been arranged between Torridge District Council, Devon County Council and the Environment Agency this week to discuss ways of dealing with the issue. One proposal would be to add more 'rock armour' to the sea to absorb the energy of the waves and reduce the erosion as they hit the sand dunes.

Saw this on the news last night. What a mess.
The money they saved 30 years ago is going to cost a lot more to put right now.

ReportMy thoughts exactly. Coastal erosion is well understood, so why put a tip near the coast...

ReportWhy did they ever have a rubbish tip right by the sea? In the dunes too. I thought it was protected area, then we find they are dumping rubbish there!
