Helicopter rescues woman taken ill in woods

A police helicopter has rescued a 25 year-old woman who fell ill in 'treacherous terrain' just off the Tarka Trail near Torrington in the early hours of Monday morning (February 26).
The woman was taken ill in thick woods at Weare Giffard. Her companion was unable to give their exact location and a police helicopter was scrambled to help search for her in terrain the police described treacherous.
An officer on foot found the woman and gave her first aid. An ambulance crew were also able to reach the casualty and stablise her before moving her to an area where she was airlifted to the North Devon District Hospital. She has since been treated and discharged from hospital.
