Once again the Radio Club proved a success with the public showing their hobby and enabling them to take part in this brilliant form of communications, in this day of computers We can talk to the world with morse code and voice as young Ben and his dad an AA man who is used to radio comms showed by talking to a dutch operator in Holland, well done Ben ! . See pictures. Our lady members showed their skills with the microphone in keeping up the communications for most of the day, although the weather was mostly dull their communications most certainly was not Well done Ladies and Gentlemen all.

Comments
gymz1 - Comments follow on and are not always 'stand alone' . My comment supported the previous comment that it was good to see some news between all the advertising.
This was a news worthy and enjoyable report - I can imagine the wonderment and excitement that this experience would be for most youngsters. I only wish more communities could provide as much. I hope that this makes my comments clearer and puts them in better perspective.

What I cannot understand is my" Report" on the success of the Appledore and District Amateur Radio Club and the success of the Abbotsham Fete which we also were invited to attend last year, and was equally as successful , was not in any way Advertising ,but Reporting, which is what this Local People site is all about ,
I Quote Bideford_ppl :-
" Of course it's always easier to whinge and moan but if you'd rather find something more positive to contribute - and support your community site into the bargain - it couldn't be easier to do so ! "
Just see the pleasure on the young man's face.... that's our contribution to the community.
also we attended the North Devon Hospice Night walk manning the radio links along the Tarka path last year and this, till past midnight and all walkers were safe, also the recent Night walk for Hospice ,see all the photo's of the Happy contributors and participators,
Maybe at 76yrs of age and believing that it is better to keep my mouth shut and be thought a fool , than to open it and prove it , is old fashioned in this modern day and age.

ReportThe 'spirit' of the Local People sites - and remember, this is one of almost 200 of them around the country - is that it is BY and FOR the local community which is why absolutely everything that is posted turns up on the homepage - until a newer post replaces it.
So, if the complaint is that you want more news (and less ads) you can easily redress this by simply posting your own news and views; commenting on existing discussions, adding your own events, articles and reviews.
Actually, it would appear we are doing something right - our stats are excellent and improving daily with more than three times the number of unique visitors logging on compared with three months ago - but we agree there are too many 'Groups' and it can be confusing trying to work out which one to post to.
That said these are the Groups that have been created by you, the community and when it comes to where to post, there are no rights or wrongs - the only things we will block are abusive, racist and libellous content.
So if you want to see something on this site, or more of something different then simply post it.
If you are a member of the local community, then it's just as much your site as anyone else's.
Of course it's always easier to whinge and moan but if you'd rather find something more positive to contribute - and support your community site into the bargain - it couldn't be easier to do so!
